For as long as I can remember, art has been a part of my life. It seems that I've always held a crayon, a pencil, a paintbrush in my hand. Serious study began at the University of Washington, Seattle, in 2000, where I had the opportunity to pursue my lifelong passion. I worked full time and studied and painted the rest of the time, graduating with a BFA in painting in 2005. Spending for three months in Italy at the University of Washington campus offered a tremendous opportunity to explore painting and art history.
With early work consisting of representational watercolors, I now look for a more impressionistic approach in both oil and watercolor painting. As an artist, I have a great love of nature and an eternal curiosity. Together these qualities make landscape painting a perfect fit. Nature is my true inspiration, its power and fragility. I’m drawn to simple scenes and quiet spaces. I believe that nature instills a sense of peace in all of us. My love of plein air painting gives me endless opportunities to appreciate this and explore the beauty that surrounds me.Inspired by the Salish Seas and the North Cascade Mountains in this place I call home, you can often find me with my easel on the shores near my Fidalgo Island studio, or exploring the mountains, valleys, and forests of the North Cascades. Finding these very special places that speak to me, capturing the splendor of nature and sharing these moments, these things bring me great joy and feed my soul. Painting for me will be a forever quest of exploration and discovery.
